- Probably... but some modems, which use the RPI interface, depend on a Windows
- device driver to implement error correction and data compression; although the
- modem will still work on an XT, some of the functionality might not. Also, my
- experience with 'wave' modems indicates that they require Windows to 'fire
- them up', although they may work without Windows after that.

- Since you're only doing e-mail, and as long as you're not expecting large
- attachments, you should have no problem with a slower (<9600 bps) modem on an
- XT. If you want faster than that, you may need to invest in a 16550A UART, or
- buy an internal modem with the equivalent functionality built-in.

- Trumpet - at least any version that I've seen recently - is out of the
- question; it'll require enhanced (386) mode Windows. However, you may be able
- to find suitable DOS based software for your XT.
